Raise your hand and speak
Support guide · 2 min read · 3 Oct 2026
Ask the host for a turn to speak in an open room or on a stage, and what happens when they approve.
Everyone joins muted with the camera off. Raising your hand tells the host you'd like to speak or ask a question, without interrupting.
- In an open room, you can unmute yourself at any time. Raising your hand is the polite way to ask for a turn.
- On a stage, only the host and invited speakers can talk. Your mic and camera show Blocked until the host lets you in, so raise your hand to ask.
Raise your hand
- Website, open room: click Raise in the control bar. It changes to Hand raised. On a phone browser, tap the hand icon at the top right, or More › Raise hand.
- Website, stage: click Raise (the first button in the control bar). It changes to Lower.
- iPhone and iPad: tap the hand button on the right side of the screen, just above the bottom bar. In an open room you can also use More › Raise hand ✋.
- Android: tap Raise on the right side of the screen, above the bottom bar. It turns orange and changes to Lower.
To lower your hand, tap the same button again.
What happens next
The host sees your hand in the participants list and can approve or decline it.
- Approved in an open room: you'll see The host approved your hand raise. Tap Unmute (or Mic) to speak.
- Approved on a stage: you'll see that the host has given you microphone and/or camera access. Tap the mic to speak and the camera to be seen.
- Declined: you'll see that the host declined your request. You can raise your hand again later.
> If your mic or camera shows Blocked, the host has turned it off for you. Raise your hand to ask for it back.
